Effect: The Pelham is a good compromise between the bit and the bridle. It provides a varying lever effect depending on the length of the shanks, the setting of the curb chain, and its attachment. It causes a lowering of the neck and puts pressure on the jaws.

Usage advice: The self-locking of the mouthpiece helps to stiffen the bit in case of strong contact, giving you a bit more control. All Pelhams can be used directly, with four reins, or with links. Similarly, the action of the curb chain can be softened with other types of curb chains such as leather or nylon.
